Description
Русский: Масштабная диаграмма голотипа Sauroposeidon proteles OMNH 53062, показывающая четыре известных позвонка и их примерное положение в шее животного.
• Sauroposeidon был описан в 2000 году как фрагментарный, но очень крупный брахиозаврид. Голотипный образец (OMNH 53062) состоит из четырёх шейных позвонков (считается, что это шейные позвонки с 5-го по 8-й). Позвонки отличаются большой длиной (длина самого большого достигает 1,4 м). Длина полной шеи была оценена как составлявшая 11,25—12 м. Если бы Sauroposeidon мог держать шею абсолютно вертикально, он бы достигал 17 или 18 м в высоту[1][2]. В исследовании 2012 года к Sauroposeidon были отнесены дополнительные окаменелости завропод из формации Клеверли: материал, первоначально описанный как Paluxysaurus jonesi, и другой, описанный впервые, материал. Исследование также показало, что это базальный представитель клады Somphospondyli, а не брахиозаврид.
