Description
English: The site of the first integrated ironworks in North America. It was in operation 1646 to about 1670. It was founded by John Winthrop the Younger. The reconstruction of the site was made possible through an archeological dig at the site, historical documents as well as conjecture. In 1968 it was added to the National Park Service and named Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site.
