Southern east slopes of Bric Colla (Municipality of Genoa, Metropolitan City of Genoa, LIG, IT).Latitude (WGS84): 44.4560 N.Longitude (WGS84): 8.7815 E.Elevation: 337 m (1105 ft)-Date: October 14, 2022. --- TAXONOMICAL INFORMATIONS Familia: Lamiaceae Martinov Species: Satureja montana L. Subspecies: Satureja montana L. subsp. montana First publication references: Sp. Pl.: 568 (1753). Synonyms: Clinopodium montanum (L.) Kuntze; Micromeria montana (L.) Rchb.; Saturiastrum montanum (L.) Fourr.; Thymus montanus (L.) Dum. --- MORPHOLOGY AND FENOLOGY Life-form: chamaephyte.Description (P. W. Ball & F. M. Getliffe): caespitose perennial plant with woody trunk as well as primary branches. Flowering stems 10-40(-70) cm, puberulent all around. Leaves 5-30 x 1-5 mm, linear to oblanceolate, glabrous except for ciliate margins. Verticillasters usually crowded, dense with the peduncles and pedicels usually less than 5 mm; lower bracts 10-20 mm, exceed-ing the verticillasters. Calyx 4-6 mm, tubular; corolla 6-12(-14) mm.Flowering: from July to November. --- ECOLOGY AND CHOROLOGY Habitat: cliffs, rocky slopes, rocky prairies and pseudo-steppes on stony, limestone, dolomitic and ophiolithic soils.Vegetation belts: mesomediterranean; supramediterranean; submediterranean; colline; montane.Edaphic preferences: Ca; Ser.Chorotype: NW-Mediterranean Orophyte.Global distribution (POWO, 2022): native to Albania, Austria, France, Greece, Italy, Spain, ex-Yugoslavia. Introduced into Portugal and USA (Texas).Italian distribution (F. Bartolucci & alii, 2018): native into Piedmont, Lombardy, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Liguria, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria, Marches, Latium, Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Apulia, Basilicata, Calabria, Sardinia.IUCN global Status: NE (Not Evaluated).Notes: Satureja montana L. subsp. montana in Liguria is a fairly euryecical species, present from the coastal zone up to the upper montane belt and occasionally up to the lower limit of the subalpine belt (eg Monte Toraggio). It can be very abundant where ultramafic or clearly calcareous lithologies predominate, while it is uncommon on other types of soil (eg flysch or marble).Regional protection: no. --- REFERENCES
