Israeli Archaeologists Find Second Temple Inscription <a href="https://mfa.gov.il/MFA/IsraelExperience/History/Pages/Excavations_north_Jerusalem_reveal_sarcophagus_fragment_6-Oct-2008.aspx#" rel="noreferrer nofollow">mfa.gov.il/MFA/IsraelExperience/History/Pages/Excavations...</a> BENJAMIN DISTRICT, WEST BANK - OCTOBER 6: In this handout picture released by the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), a fragment of a sarcophagus with Hebrew script reading "Ben HaCohen HaGadol", or Son of the High Priest, and dated to about 30-70 AD, was discovered in the ruins of a Moslem settlement, dated to about 1,000 AD October 6, 2008 in the Benjamin District of the West Bank. The area was built over the remains of Second Temple period Jewish homes, where. Israeli archaeologists said they believe the 60cm x 48cm fragment was apparently taken from a Jewish burial ground and used for as part of a Muslim building near Jerusalem. The excavations were carried out to prepare the route for Israel's security fence in the West Bank north of Jerusalem. |
