Deutsch: Römischer Sarkophag: Orest und Iphigenie (Vorderseite). In der Mitte Orest und Pylades nach ihrer Ankunft im Barbarenland der Tauris (Krim); der Muttermörder Orest von einer Erinye (Peitsche und Schlange) bedrängt und vom Freunde gestützt. Links Heiligtum der taurischen Artemis mit Kultbild, Opferbecken, Baum und Tempel (aufgehängte Köpfe der Menschenopfer); ein Barbar treibt die gefangenen Freunde zur Priesterin Iphigenie. Rechts Iphigenie mit dem entführten Kultbild, Überwindung der Barbaren, Iphigenie auf dem rettenden Schiff. Deckel: Girlanden, Eroten, Adler, Köpfe, Delphine. 130-140 n. Chr.
English: Roman sarcophagus: Orestes and Iphigeneia (front side). Center, Orestes and Pylades after their arrival in the barbarian country of Tauris (Crimea); the matricide Orestes is tormented by an Erinye (whip and snake) and supported by his friend. Left, sanctuary of taurian Artemis with cult icon, offering vase, tree and temple (hanging heads from human sacrifices); a Barbarian is pushing 2 prisonner friends (?) to priestress Iphigeneia. Right, Iphigenia with the stolen cult icon, victory of the barbarians; Iphigenia on the fleeing ship. Lid: garlands, erotes, eagle, heads and dolphins. 130–140 CE.
Français : Sarcophage romain : Oreste et Iphigénie (face avant). Au centre Oreste et Pylade après leur arrivée chez les Barbares de Tauride (actuelle Crimée) ; Oreste est tourmenté pour son matricide par une Érinye (fouet et serpent) et soutenu par son ami. À gauche le sanctuaire d'Artémis en Tauride avec statue votive, vase à offrandes, arbre sacré et temple (des têtes provenant de sacrifices humains y sont pendues) ; un barbare pousse des amis captifs (?) vers Iphigénie prêtresse. À droite Iphigénie avec la statue votive dérobée, victoire des barbares ; fuite d'Iphigénie en bateau. Couvercle : guirlandes, erotes, aigle, têtes et dauphins. 130-140 ap. J.-C. |
