DescriptionSarasota - My Home after 8 Inches of Rain (1995).jpg |
Sarasota, Florida. It rained on July 18, 1995. This was my first big rainstorm in Florida, 8.17 inches (208 mm) of rain fell that day. This was the scene after the storm was over. Water was receding slowly. flooding reached two-thirds of the way up the driveway. I guessed that it might reach the house if the rain continued for another two hours, but the rain finally ended. There were two stages to flooding on Kingston Drive. The first came when the drain at the end of the street reached its capacity. There is only one drain, and it handles all of the water that drains from three blocks, plus additional water that flows by on Kingston Boulevard. The drain was probably blocked by debris, which made things worse. The second stage came when the main storm sewer in the area reached its capacity, and all drains in the area backed up. |
