Description
English: Saraçlar Street is the main street in Edirne that supports trade and social activity in the city. It is located parallel to the former eastern walls of Edirne Castle, which was built by Roman Emperor Hadrian but no longer exists today. The Alipaşa Grand Bazaar, built by the architect Sinan in 1559, continues to support the trading life of this 700 meter long street.

Edirne’nin ticari ve sosyal açıdan en önemli caddesi olan Saraçlar Caddesi, Roma imparatoru Hadrian tarafından yaptırılan ve bugün artık ayakta olmayan Edirne Kalesi’nin doğu suruna paralel olarak yaklaşık 700 metre boyunca uzanır. Mimar Sinan tarafından 1559’da inşa edilmiş, caddeye paralel olarak konumlanan Alipaşa Kapalı Çarşısı, caddenin ticari etkinliğinin en önemli destekçisidir. Saraçlar’da özgün niteliğini koruyan çok sayıda kültür varlığı olmakla birlikte, doğu kanadındaki yapılar 1970’lerdeki yol genişletme çalışmaları sonucunda özelliklerini büyük ölçüde yitirmiştir.
