Description

om base em registos bibliográficos, terá existido um antigo mosteiro de Cónegos Regulares de Santo Agostinho no local onde hoje se encontra o Santuário de São Torcato. A acrescentar, o Dr. Gonçalves da Costa (História do Bispado e Cidade de Lamego, 1977-1992) informa-nos que, nos fins da Idade Média, a ermida de São Torcato já era considerada uma das mais importantes de Lamego. Este lugar de culto situa-se a cerca de 920 metros de altitude a Norte/Nordeste da povoação de Cabaços e é composto, actualmente, por duas capelas (onde se podem observar peças em madeira de ex-votos), um coreto e um parque arborizado. O templo ainda continua a ser visitado, sobretudo no mês de Maio, mantendo-se a tradição de levar os rebanhos à capela, onde se cumprem as três voltas e o velho costume de colocar o chapéu do santo, para curar e prevenir doenças e males da cabeça.
