Situado na encosta da Nó, numa aprazível clareira que o verde dos pinhais circunda, o Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte é um templo de romaria cujo exterior banal e arcaizante de maneira alguma denuncia a espectacular máquina escultórica encerrada no seu coração. A construção do santuário iniciou-se pelos fins do século XVII ou princípios da centúria seguinte, tendo-se trabalhado na obra durante boa parte da primeira metade do século XVIII. Só em 1740 se começou a erguer o coro, devendo todo o monumento ter ficado concluído dois anos depois. No seu interior - malgrado alguns atropelos acrescentados e repintados - guarda-se um monumental, uma vibrante composição de talha e imaginária, verdadeiramente estranha para Portugal, antes a recordar soluções do barroco espanhol, que sobressai, sumptuosa, na monumental capeIa-mor. Trabalho realizado, em 1720, pelo entalhador bracarense Francisco Ferreira de Castro, resulta numa aparatosa e insólita composição de talha estilo nacional, emoldurando uma vasta tribuna com dossel, destinada a uma série de grandes estátuas em madeira (de autor coevo mas desconhecido), e posteriormente (seguramente depois de 1731) rematado por Alexandre Coelho e Vitório Soares, artistas douradores de Ponte de Lima.
