Transcripción de la ficha:

"La hagiografía cristiana subraya la privación que caracterizó la vida mística de Catalina de Siena. Narran sus biógrafos que, en una ocasión, sin saber sus padres y hermana de la promesa hecha ante Jesús de conservarse virgen, la joven fue instada a colocarse primorosas telas y joyas y a arreglarse el cabello para presentarla a la sociedad y convenir matrimonio. Arrepentida de su acción, pero obediente a su familia, habría de pronunciarse: Prometo a tu Hijo y te prometo a Ti no aceptar jamás otro esposo y conservarme con todas las fuerzas de mi alma pura y sin mancha. La escena de Correa evoca el pasaje en el que la santa se corta el pelo para consagrarse a su esposo místico. En esta pintura, el autor da cuenta de la renuncia al mundo por medio de las sencillas prendas de la joven: corpiño, mangas y saya. En contraste, se aprecia la moda borbónica que luce su desventurado pretendiente: capa gascona, jubón. bragueta y fina valona de encaje flamenco." (Símbolo y Reino, 2023)
