Description
Italiano: Il portale ovest, pertinente alla fase costruttiva più antica, manifesta appieno i caratteri esclusivamente classicistici della cultura architettonica espressa dal primitivo Sant'Alessandro, e col suo frontone triangolare è un unicum nel contesto della Lucca medievale: i dettagli scolpiti sono tutti di diretta derivazione romana, mentre le dimensioni di ogni elemento sono regolate da un complesso tracciato proporzionale (si vedano le foto e i disegni in Commons); si noti inoltre come le lastre di marmo (e le minute tarsie ai lati del frontone) si dispongano simmetricamente rispetto all'asse del portale cosicché il piano di facciata viene generato geometricamente dalle altezze del portale stesso, secondo modalità estranee all'architettura romanica.
