English: On July 8, BLM Director Neil Kornze was at Oregon’s Sandy Ridge trailhead to help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Land and Water Conservation Fund which has assisted local communities with conservation, outdoor recreation, and clean water projects.
This event highlighted such projects as the partnership between Western Rivers Conservancy and Portland General Electric to protect 3,150 acres that has preserved crucial habitat for wildlife and threatened salmon and steelhead species. In addition, Director Kornze recognized the BLM’s partnership with the International Mountain Bicycling Association and youth organizations such as Antfarm and the Northwest Youth Corps to develop the 15-mile Sandy Ridge Trail System, a collection of innovative mountain bike trails that is expected to host more than 100,000 visits in 2014. Additional partners included guests from Clackamas County, Travel Oregon, and the office of Oregon Senator Ron Wyden.
