Summary

Description

Part of plate Plate 20, Insurance Maps of Seattle, Washington, Volume 1, Sanborn Map Company, 1904. This is one of a series of images from this and other nearby pages showing great detail of the Pioneer Square neighborhood at this date.

This image shows the block south of S Washington Street, north of S Main Street, and east of Second Avenue South and west of Third Avenue S. This block was cleanly sliced through diagonally (upper left to lower right) when Second Avenue Extension was put through circa 1929. Some of these buildings survive as of 2008 in whole or in part, some with new façades along Second Avenue Extension. At upper right is the Washington Court Building, once Lou Graham's brothel, now offices for the Union Gospel Mission. The fire station at lower right is entirely gone.

This is a raw image of a plastic-covered document: some reflections and also some shadow.
