Description

Part of plate Plate 17, Insurance Maps of Seattle, Washington, Volume 1, Sanborn Map Company, 1904. This is one of a series of images from this and other nearby pages showing great detail of the Pioneer Square neighborhood at this date.

This image is the block south of Jackson Street, east of First Avenue South and west of what is now Occidental Way South. All of these buildings survive as of 2008; there are now other buildings to their south, where there were once railway tracks. The building at left is known as the Heritage Building; it is marked vacant here; it would have been been built the very year of this map (see Summary for 101 S Jackson ST S / Parcel ID 5247800255, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods). The next two buildings (across the alley) were later united by a shared façade, and survive as the Fisher Building (see Summary for 115 S Jackson ST S / Parcel ID 5247800265, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods). Finally, the building at right, now has the small Jackson Square condominium apartments upstairs and art gallery spaces downstairs (see Summary for 123 S Jackson ST S / Parcel ID 5247800275, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods).

This is a raw image of a plastic-covered document: some reflections and also some shadow.
