English: A painting that represents a skeleton (probably the death). Near its feet is an hourglass on a book (on the left) and a crown with scepter (on the right). In the wall that keeps the painting a human skull was recessed in place of the head of the painted skeleton. The painting is located in the San Gaudioso catacombs, under the church of Santa Maria della Sanità in Naples, Italy.
Italiano: Una pittura rappresentante uno scheletro (a figurare la morte) con ai piedi una clessidra su di un libro, sulla sinistra, ed una corona con scettro, sulla destra. Nella parete su cui è stato effettuato il dipinto fu incassato appositamente un teschio umano in luogo della testa dello scheletro dipinto. La pittura è sita nelle catacombe di San Gaudioso, sotto la chiesa di Santa Maria della Sanità, Napoli. |
