Summary
[edit]DescriptionSan Francisco Trip - Fall 2010 - Plant Life on Alcatraz (5089520275).jpg |
Alcatraz Island has a beautiful array of interesting plants. Many of the plants are the result of gardening on the island during the years it was used as a prison. The side of the island below the lighthouse is covered in Agave, a type of plant that has spines along the margin of the leaf. These plants were originally put there to discourage unwanted people from visiting the island, as it would be very unpleasant to hike through them. |
