Text

[edit]

S. Laing Williams entered the University of Michigan and graduated with the class of 1881, receiving the A.B. degree. After teaching for some time in Alabama, he was appointed to a position in the Pension office at Washington. In 1885 he resigned and came to Chicago to practice law. While in Washington he entered the law department of the Columbian University, and after finishing his course took post-graduate work in the same school. Mr. Williams is a fine student, and in scholarly ability has no superior among the colored lawyers of Chicago. He is the husband of Mrs. Fannie Barrier Williams, who is the first and only colored woman ever admitted to membership in the Chicago Woman's Club.
