Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Samuel Hand (1833–86) was a prominent lawyer in Albany, New York. He became leader of the appellate bar and argued cases before the New York Court of Appeals in "greater number and importance than those argued by any other lawyer in New York during the same period" (Gunther, 7). Hand was the son of Augustus C. Hand, a justice of the New York Supreme Court and a Democratic senator; and he was the father of Learned Hand, a famous judge on the New York Court of the Second Circuit.
