Description
English: Nearly square sampler embroidered in soft colors of green, tan and pink on a cream ground. Variation of the lozenge sampler, with each corner of the diamond cut off to make an octagon, and the typical stepped outline made into a floral border. Within the lozenge are four alphabets and, containted withing a box, a verse: How should the morning of my days be spent in humble pray'r and praise to him who gave me life and breath and still preserves my soul from death To him I'll dedicate my days Then shall I prosper in my ways And whilst my calling I pursue His praise shall terminate my view Surrounded by four squares of pattern darning, two checkerboard diamonds, and a white rose above the signature Eliz'th Warren Aged 7 Years 1815. With deer and dogs filling the space, and a cherub in each corner. The verse is from Songs in the Night by Susannah Harrison, first published in 1780. The verse here is from the second edition of 1807.
