Description
English: Shallow wells or basins were carved into volcanic lava rock by the shoreline to trap and harvest sea salt or pa’akai. Native Hawaiians used sea salt to preserve food and for cultural and religious practices and as medicine. Located at Pu’honua O Honaunau National Historic Park, Honaunau, Hawaii. NRHP #66000104
