| Description |
English: Salisbury Station, west end with Bournemouth - Nottingham express. View eastward, towards London, also Southampton/Eastleigh via Romsey and Bournemouth via Wimbourne; ex-LSW London - Exeter main line and secondary lines. Ex-GW 'Modified Hall' 4-6-0 No. 7901 'Dodingtpn Hall' (built 3/49, withdrawn 2/64) has just taken over (from a BR Standrad 4-6-0) the Summer Saturday 10.20 Bournemouth West - Nottingham Midland express, which took a circuitous route at the time - following the take-over of the Somerset & Dorset by the WR: it had come from Bournemouth via Pool and Wimborne - on another line also soon to be closed - to proceed via Westbury to Bristol, where the LMR would take over the train. (Cf. SU1330 : Summer Saturday at Salisbury: Up WR and Down SR trains). |
