Summary
[edit]DescriptionSalem Church Relocation.JPG |
English: This is a large historical building relocation that occurred in January 2009 in Salem, Massachusetts. The First Baptist Church is being moved a short distance to make way for a new courthouse. Below the I-Beams supporting the church are nearly three dozen hydraulically powered dollies, which do the actual moving. Built in 1806, the church's thin brick walls support the entire weight of the structure; temporary steel bracing is visible on the outside wall. The church is to become a law library for the future courthouse. (Source: The Salem News, January 3, 2009.) |
