Salem Cemetery. Palmer, Ind Date: Circa 1908 Source Type: Postcard Publisher, Printer, Photographer: AZO Postmark: None Collection: Steven R. Shook Remark: Though this postcard indicates that Salem Cemetery is located in Palmer, Lake County, Indiana, it is actually located over the Lake-Porter county line in Porter County about 4.5 miles directly north of Hebron. The cemetery is situated on the north side of County Road 350 South between County Line Road at 769 West. This cemetery’s founding is associated with the Salem Church, which was erected in 1848 by Ananias Freeman on one acre of land donated by Edmund Sheffield. The Salem Cemetery Association was formed in 1888. The first church was destroyed by fire on May 16, 1903, and was soon rebuilt at the same location. The second church was removed from the site on October 6, 1960. The current Salem United Methodist Church is located adjacent to the cemetery and directly across the road (350 South) from the site of the original church site. The burial ground is occasionally referred to as the Salem Methodist Cemetery. Using a cemetery index and Find A Grave information, nearly all of the tombstones in this cemetery image can be identified. As an example, the lower image provides identification for three of the larger tombstones: 1. <a href="https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/20399045" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Ruben K.
