A wood bass-relief of Saint Ursula And The Eleven Thousand Virgins from the Museum Of Christian Art, Goa

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Situated within the Museum Of Christian Art, Goa, this early-17th Century polychrome wood bas-relief represents St. Ursula (d. 383 CE), who was a Christian saint of royal British descent. The relief shows a crown-wearing Ursula, holding an arrow that has pierced her in one hand and a cross bearing a flag in the other. She is surrounded by maidens holding palm-leaf fronds. The relief itself was earlier gilded and one can see traces of gold highlights that are still visible.
