旧町名の「魚町（うおのまち）」は次の町名の総称である^[1]。

• 江戸期から1874年（明治7年）までの町名：
  • 魚町上（うおのまちかみ）
  • 魚町中（うおのまちなか）
  • 魚町下（うおのまちしも）
• 1874年（明治7年）から1966年（昭和41年）までの町名：
  • 上魚町（かみうおのまち）
  • 中魚町（なかうおのまち）
  • 下魚町（しもうおのまち）

なお、1966年（昭和41年）からは上記の「上」「中」「下」が一つになり、1874年（明治7年）からあった次の町名の区域の一部に編入された。

• • 上呉服町（かみごふくまち）

石碑の石材は1979年（昭和54年）2月11日に廃止された路面電車（西鉄福岡市内線）の敷石として使用されていたものである。 なお、この石碑は村山商店（法人番号：3290001057636、名称：株式会社インクローチ、所在地：福岡市博多区上呉服町2番121号^[2]）の敷地内にある。
