西門通り沿いにあるこの駐輪場は、豊臣秀吉によって行われた「太閤町割り」の区画を利用しているため、間口が狭く奥行きの深い形状となっている。通りから向かって左側の掲示板には「奥から詰めて駐輪すること」と記されている。

当該地区は1998年11月30日に景観法及び福岡市都市景観条例に基づき福岡市により指定された御供所地区都市景観形成地区の西門通り地区に含まれており、建築物の高さ、壁面の位置、形態・意匠などに関する規制の対象となっているため、伝統的な町並みを大きく変えることができなくなっている。

なお、「西門通り」は正式名称で福岡市道上呉服町303号線の一部並びに同上呉服町307号線及び309号線の区間について博多区や自治協議会などによりつけられた道路愛称である[1]。
