Because the contrast of the original scene was extremely high, this version combines two conversions from the raw file, one (for the highlights) with -1.70 EV exposure change and another (for the midtones and shadows) with no exposure change. A heavily blurred mask (with the highlights of the full-exposure background layer selected) was applied to the reduced-exposure layer.
