Description
English: Sagebrush pygmyleaf, Loeflingia squarrosa var. artemisiarum, Nevada, Prison Hill, Silver Saddle Ranch, Carson River drainage, elevation 1415 m (4645 ft). This rare (or at least rarely noticed) plant inhabits loose sandy desert soils of the interior basin and range of the western United States, and only germinates in the wettest years. Among the humblest of desert plants, this species has no petals, and the rest of its flower parts are tiny and look very much like the leaves, making it hard to tell that these two plants are in full flower and fruit.
Français : Feuille pygmée d'armoise, Loeflingia squarrosa var. artemisiarum, Nevada, Prison Hill, Silver Saddle Ranch, drainage de la rivière Carson, altitude 1415 m. Cette plante rare (ou du moins rarement remarquée) habite les sols désertiques sablonneux du bassin intérieur de l'ouest des États-Unis. Elle ne germe que les années les plus humides. Elles sont parmi les plus humbles des plantes du désert. Cette espèce n'a pas de pétales, et le reste de ses parties florales sont si minuscules et ressemblent tant aux feuilles qu'il est difficile de savoir si ces plantes sont en pleine floraison ou ont fructifié.
