Summary
[edit]DescriptionSafranbolu İzzet Paşa Cami 8120.jpg |
English: Izzet Mehmet Pasha, who served as grand vizier in 1794-1798 during the reign of Selim III, had a small version of the Nuruosmaniye Mosque in Istanbul, built in 1796 in the town where he was born in 1743. The mosque is among the works in which western influences were reflected on Turkish architecture in the 18th century. The İzzet Mehmet Pasha Mosque, which has the tughra of Sultan Selim III on its mihrab, reflects aesthetic elements with its stencil and globe, as well as its hand-drawn works, decorations, polygonal pen-like minaret body. The building, which is the only one among the mosques in Safranbolu, with lead on its roof, creates a sense of integrity from its mihrab, pulpit, pencil works and railings.
The mosque, which was completely made of cut stone, has features that can be considered within the group of Fevkani Mosques. The mosque's complex, which was repaired in 1902-1903 and 1990, includes a library, ablution room, two fountains and shops. The mosque and its courtyard sit on the arches built on the Akçasu Stream, which passes under it. |
