Summary
[edit]DescriptionSafely arrived from Hest Bank, Cross Bay Walk 1970 - geograph.org.uk - 1765018.jpg |
English: Safely arrived from Hest Bank, Cross Bay Walk 1970 Elderly and traditional holidaymakers watching mud-stained walkers arriving at Grange after the Cross Bay Walk in June 1970. Starting at 11.30 am from Hest Bank shore, following the guide, we reached Grange at 2 pm. The channels of the Rivers Keer and Kent are the deepest places, and the safest route is not fixed - hence the need for an expert guide who knows the Bay.
We purchased certificates (cost 3d in pre-decimal currency) commemorating our achievement, and after an hour's break, 40 or so of us opted to follow him on the walk back to Hest Bank, arriving at 5.10 pm. I have a couple of photos taken en route, but unfortunately cannot locate them with any reliability (GPS was not to arrive for another 25 years or so!). It's interesting to see the amount of sand here 40 years ago compared with the salt marsh in today's pictures. |
