Notes Officer's saddle, Anglo-Boer War period This is a McClellan pattern USA military saddle. Some of these were used during the Anglo Boer War but they were not popular as "most Imperial and Colonial Troops did not fully understand them and this lead to sore backs with the horses and sore parts for the troopers. There is no full seat or saddle flaps so your legs were over the rifle bucket and sword." The actual history of this object is not known.
