e the moon—crescents, Httle moons worn as an ornament onthe neck ; worn also on the necks of men and of camels. Judg. 8 : 21, 26. Chains—rather ear-drops. Bracelets—worn round the arms and wrists. Mujffiers—veils. The corresponding Arabic word denotes, according toFreytag, a species of veil consisting of two parts, which is fastened overthe eyes by means of clasps ; one x^art being thrown back over the head,and the other part hanging down over the breast, so as to cover th(? lowerpart of the face. This is probably a near representation of the Hebrewveil denoted by the corresponding word. Bonnets—head-dresses, probably of various forms. Ornaments for the legs—generally understood of the ankle-chains attachedto the ankle-hands mentioned above, which the oriental women employedto give themselves a short mincing step. See vef. 16 of this chapter. Head-hands—rather gii^dles. Tablets—literally, houses of the soul or of breath; and rightly interpretedto mean boxes of perfume.
