Description (right) The saber (nimcha) of Michiel de Ruyter. Algeria about 1640-1664. Made of iron, silver, brass tortoiseshell, mother of pearl and enamel. Sheat made of leather, broadcloth and velvet. Item can be seen at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. According to the oral tradition, Michiel de Ruyter conquered this sabre on an Algerian pirate in 1655. (left) His rapier.
