English: While this store is still very obvious as a former Albertsons, Saar's has sure put up a lot of signage around the entryway! This seems to be a staple of lower-end grocery stores, and Saar's certainly isn't trying to hide their lower-end status here.
Speaking of that, I suppose I should actually introduce what Saar's is. Saar's was founded in 1988 in Oak Harbor as a low-cost grocery store, and has expanded to a few dozen stores over the years, sometimes in closed grocery stores from other chains. They used to have a store on the other side of town, which closed shortly after the Super Walmart opened to replace the old "standard" Walmart. They used to be generally branded as "Saar's Market Place", but in recent years almost all of them have been remodeled and rebranded as "Saar's Super Saver Foods". I also find it interesting how Saar's changed the internally-illuminated signage here for flat signage with external lighting. It seems like it would cost more to change up the wiring and fix the stucco than to install a nicer sign, but who knows... |
