Title |
SWYOR-F8BF08 Post Medieval Apothecary Weight |
||
Description |
English: A copper-alloy apothecaries' weight of Post-Medieval date, about AD 1600 - 1700. It is rectangular in form and section with slightly rounded sides. It is 17.77mm in length,the width is 16.28mm, the thickness is 3.55mm and the weight is 6.75g. It has a dark green patina. Both faces of the object are stamped with an apothecaries' symbol, probably for two drachms, looking like a W and an i with an annnulet dot, and a six-armed star, which is probably a variety of the "rose" mark found on weights of the 17th century. A two drachm weight would be expected to have a mass of 7.78g.
