Suriname bereidt zich voor op EITI-validatie

In verband met de opkomst zijnde EITI- validatie, heeft de Multi Stakeholders Group (MSG) in samenwerking met het Nationaal Secretariaat van de EITI in Suriname een Self Assessment Workshop gehouden. De werkvergadering is belegd om intern de nodige voorbereidingen te treffen voor een vlot verloop van het validatieproces van de gepubliceerde EITI-rapporten, handelend over de fiscale jaren 2016 en 2017. De samenkomst vond plaats op vrijdag 21 februari 2020.

Conform de EITI-standaard is de validatie een vereiste. Volgens de directeur van het ministerie van NH tevens voorzitter van de MSG, Dave Abeleven, zal er in maart 2020 een team van het Internationaal Secretariaat van de EITI afreizen naar Suriname om de validatie te doen. De MSG is belast met het toezicht op de toepassing en de implementatie van de EITI-standaard in ons land.

Op 23 januari 2020 is het tweede EITI-rapport overhandigd aan de minister van NH, Sergio Akiemboto en Iris Sandel namens de minister van Financiën. En op 24 mei 2019 is het eerste EITI-rapport uitgereikt aan de NH-bewindsman en de Financiën topman.
