Summary

[edit]
Description c.1941. This mixed liner of the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique launched in 1923 was sent October 31, 1940 by the government of Vichy from Martinique to Casablanca with 1300 passengers. But en route he was intercepted by the Royal Navy. Arrived in Freetown on November 7, 1940, it was seized and chartered by the Cunard White Star Co. Her crew had been repatriated to Morocco in January 1941, by Portuguese ships, not without having tried to scuttle her, but without success. Only four per cent of the crew had joined Free France[1].
