Title
SOM-D9D524: Five mesolithic to early Neolithic microburins (dorsal)
Description
English: Five flint microburins of various sizes found together with large collection of Mesolithic to early Bronze Age flint tools and flint working debris dispersed over a field. Microburins are by-products of microlith production. All have long thin, longitudinal flaking scars on the dorsal face and a small notch on one side where the microlith has been snapped from the burin. None show any evidence of further retouch.

The following dimensions and notes refer to the objects shown in the photograph in order from left to right.

1. Length: 43.81mm, Width: 18.33mm, Thickness: 3.80mm Weight: 3.30g Secondary flake. Four long thin flaking scars on dorsal face. Notch on right side and small portion removed down to the proximal end. Small amount of cortex remaining on dorsal face at the distal end. Mid brown in colour with a shiny patina.

2. Length: 33.18mm, Width: 18.26mm, Thickness: 3.52mm Weight: 2.25g Secondary flake. One large longitudinal flake in the centre of the dorsal face with two thinner ones along the edges on either side. Notch on left side and portion removed from the centre down to the proximal end. A tiny amount of cortex remains at the distal end. Mid grey flint with lighter patches and matt patina.
