Title
SOM-46E644: Post-Medieval seal top spoon
Description
English: The stem and the terminal from a Post-Medieval copper alloy seal top spoon. The stem is oval in cross section and culminates in a thin circumferential band, followed by a foliate knop, a very thin band and then another knop marked with vertical grooves at regualr intervals, before culminating in a flat disk. This last section is the 'seal top' - so called because it resembles the seal matrices used during this period and earlier to make impressions in sealing wax. The rest of the spoon is missing. Late 16th to 17th century in date (Moore 2005, pp.7-10). Length: 54.67mm, Diameter of seal top: 12.87mm, Weight: 9.68g
Depicted place (County of findspot) Somerset
