Summary

[edit]
Description

c/n 730924 (as an Fw190A-8) then c/n 62 (as an NC.900A-8) The history of this airframe begins in June 1944 when Fw190A-8 WkNr 730924 rolled off the Focke-Wulf production line at Oshersleben wearing the factory code TL+WJ. Captured during the liberation of France, it was rebuilt in the underground SNCAC factory at Cravant and became an NC.900A-8 with the new c/n 62. It saw brief French Air Force service as ‘62’, possibly being used by the Centre d'Essais en Vol (CEV). By 1957 it was on display, in full French markings, as part of the national collection which was then at Chalais-Meudon. At some point it was painted overall green and given approximate Luftwaffe markings before moving to Le Bourget, along with the rest of the collection, around 1970. It was given a slightly more realistically German colour scheme before going on display in Hall B during 1975 but was repainted again in 1977 to the scheme currently worn, which represents the aircraft flown by Joseph ‘Pips’ Priller whilst Wing Commander of Jagdgeschwader 26 (JG 26) “Schlageter”. It is now on display in the Second World War Hall (Hall 5) at the Musée de l'air et de l'espace. Le Bourget Airport, Paris, France.
