English: A U.S. Navy Sikorksy SH-3A Sea King (BuNo 152121) of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 6 (HS-6) "Indians" takes off from the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge (CVS-33). HS-6 was assigned to Carrier Anti-Submarine Air Group 53 (CVSG-53) aboard the Kearsarge for a deployment to the Western Pacific and Vietnam from 9 June to 20 December 1966. Note the drop tank carried for search-and-rescue operations. This helicopter was used to rescue LCdr. Thomas A. Tucker of Phographic Reconnaissance Squadron 63 (VFP-63) Det. G under fire out of Haiphong Harbour, North Vietnam, on 31 August 1966. |
