SF-D3823C: Early medieval small-long brooch
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy early medieval (early Anglo-Saxon) small-long brooch. Only the head and bow of the brooch survive. The head plate is trefoil shaped and there is the remains opf a single lug pin fitting extending from its reverse, covered in iron corrosion. The bow is a narrow strip with a slight raised ridge running down the centre of its outer face and a raised transverse line across its outer face at the point where it joins the head. The surface of the metal is pitted with corrosion and the breaks are well worn.

With its trefoil head plate this example belongs to Penn and Brugmann's (2007, 24) Type sm2, which dates to their phase FA1 with continued use into phase FA2a, c.AD 450-500.
