Description
English: A complete flint Mesolithic tranchet axe. It is ovoid in shape; long and narrow with a slightly wider blade end. It is roughly triangular in cross-section with a raised central ridge running longitundinally across one face. The other face is much flatter. Both faces have been reshaped using invasive, scaled retouch producing large scars. A large triangular transverse 'tranchet' flake has been removed from one side of the cutting end. The flint is mottled grey with much milky patination and some orange staining from the soil. A patch of chalky cortex remains on the dorsal face.
