ARLINGTON, Va. (Jan. 11, 2017) Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Ray Mabus delivers remarks during the 29th annual Surface Navy Association (SNA) National Symposium. Mabus spoke about the future of the surface Navy, the necessity to increase the number of ships in the Fleet, and a focus on energy and alternate fuel options to maintain the Navy’s projection of power and readiness. This year’s SNA Symposium focuses on “Distributed Lethality: Enabling Sea Control,” a strategy used to achieve and sustain sea control at the time and place of the Navy’s choosing in order to protect the homeland from afar, build and maintain global security, project the national power of the United States, and, if necessary, win decisively.
