Français : Dévoilée en 1978, la Ritmo débarque de l’autre côté de la Méditerranée dès l’année suivante alors que l’association Fiat-Seat, entreprise d’état via l’INI (Instituto Nacional de Industria), a du plomb dans l’aile.
Le partenariat, signé en 1950 pour une durée de 30 ans afin de doter l’Espagne franquiste d’une industrie automobile nationale, touche en effet à sa fin, et les négociations pour une éventuelle prorogation s’annoncent ardues: l’ibère se trouve lourdement endetté avec des effectifs pléthoriques, alors que l’italien est également en proie à des difficultés internes... Les mois passent et aucune solution satisfaisant les deux parties n’est en vue, si bien que Fiat se retire officiellement de la partie au printemps 81. La Ronda voit le jour en 82 mais le remodelage semble insignifiant aux yeux du constructeur turinois, qui attaque son ancien partenaire pour contrefaçon devant un tribunal d’arbitrage international, estimant que le total de 25% de pièces différentes entre les deux modèles n’est pas atteint ! Le transalpin débouté, Seat peut non seulement continuer à écouler la voiture sur son marché intérieur mais, plus intéressant encore, entreprendre son exportation. Ce qui se produira en France, Allemagne et Benelux notamment, mais les ventes demeureront marginales. Les conséquences auraient pu être dramatiques mais la chance est décidément du côté espagnol, car Seat ne tarde pas à se trouver un nouveau garant aux reins solides en la personne de Volkswagen. Disponible en concession en 84, l’Ibiza et ses moteurs retravaillés par Porsche (la Ronda en profite également), argument commercial évident, est le signe de ce renouveau. Le succès de la nouvelle venue permet le renflouement des caisses d’autant qu’en 86, au moment où la Ronda s’efface sur la pointe des pieds, VW prend 75% du capital... participation montant à 100% à l’amorce de la décennie suivante. |
