Description

South Dakota Rangeland Days 2014 was held near Chamberlain, SD on June 24-25, 2014.

Rangeland Days is an opportunity to learn more about one of the most important South Dakota resources, our Rangelands. Learning activities have been designed for a variety of age groups and expertise, from 8 years old through adult.

Starting with plant morphology and identification on up to judging habitat suitability for cattle or grouse, everyone attending Rangeland Days is sure to gain from participating. Divisions are determined by experience level and age as of January 1: New Rangers 8-10 years Wrangler 11-13 years Scouts 14-18 years Go Getters 14-18 years Ranch hand Adults (non-pro) “The Scout Division is intended to serve in-coming high school freshmen or high school students who have never participated in range camp or a previous range judging event. In-coming freshmen, based on confidence in their abilities and experience may choose to participate in the Scout or Go-Getter division. This designation must be made at the time of registration.

After a day of active learning the participants will have the opportunity to measure how much they have learned by participating in a contest, again designed specifically for their age level and expertise.

A “new” Ranch hand plant ID contest will be held concurrent with the student contest.

The event was hosted by the Brule/Buffalo Conservation District the Society for Range Management South Dakota Chapter and many other partners.
