English: Maj. Linda Riedel, Civil Affairs officer, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, S.C. Army National Guard, Charleston, S.C., calms a civilian role-player during Vibrant Response 10.2 conducted at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center in Butlerville, Ind., July 16. Vibrant Response 10.2 is a U.S. Northern Command training event for the chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high yield explosives consequence management response force 10.2. The field training exercise focuses on Department of Defense support of civil authorities in a consequence management role. The CCMRF is part of DoD's scalable response capability to assist civilian responders in saving lives, relieving human suffering and mitigating great property damage in response to a catastrophic CBRNE incident. Soldiers conducted search and rescue missions, decontamination, route clearance, medical evacuation, and other emergency support functions in cooperation with civil authorities. The scenario is aimed at preparing first responders for the unthinkable, a nuclear blast in a major U.S. city. Vibrant Response 10.2 is the nation's largest annual domestic terrorism exercise. |
