Summary
[edit]DescriptionSAR 600-class locomotive B-3992.jpg |
English: South Australian Railways 600 class locomotive no. 605 was one of a batch of ten "Pacific" (4-6-2 wheel arrangement) steam locomotives delivered by ship to Adelaide in March and June 1926 and put into service in September of that year. The 600 class was one of three classes, each of 10 engines, specified by Commissioner William Webb and built to modified US Railroad Administration designs in 1924–26 by Armstrong Whitworth in Elswick, Newcastle upon Tyne, England, incorporating many components from the United States. This photo, taken at Islington workshops soon after delivery, was equivalent to a builder's photograph. |
