Description |
The original finding aid described this as: Description: Mission Specialist (MS) Musgrave, wearing extravehicular mobility unit (EMU) and designated EV1, with MS Peterson's help performs Inertial Upper Stage (IUS) Airborne Support Equipment (ASE) Contingency Extravehicular Activity (EVA) Operations in aft payload bay (PLB). Musgrave and Peterson route aft bulkhead winch rope/cable to ASE aft frame tilt actuator (AFTA) table through a pulley and to AFTA tube assembly. IUS ASE Contingency EVA Operations would be necessary in the event of tilt table actuator failure but not required for normal IUS Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS) deployment. ASE forward frame and umbilical boom appear in foreground and orbital maneuvering system (OMS) pods and vertical tail in the background. Subject Terms: ONBOARD ACTIVITIES, PAYLOAD BAY, EXTRAVEHICULAR MOBILITY UNITS, ASTRONAUTS EXTRAVEHICULAR ACTIVITY, SPACECRAFT MAINTENANCE, SPACE MAINTENANCE, STS-6 REPAIRING, ACTUATORS, CABLES (ROPES), TETHERLINES, CHALLENGER (ORBITER) Date Taken: 4/7/1983 Categories: EVA Interior_Exterior: Exterior Ground_Orbit: On-orbit Element: Shuttle Payload Bay Original: Film - 35MM CN Preservation File Format: TIFF |
