Селлайо, Якопо дель, ок. 1442-1493 Апостол Иоанн Италия, около 1490 г.

Скорее всего, эти образы были созданы для боковых створок триптиха со сценой Распятия в центре. Судьба центральной композиции неизвестна. Большое влияние на искусство Селлайо оказал Сандро Боттичелли, у которого Якопо учился выразительности линии. Творчество этого художника не отличается разнообразием, он часто повторяет фигуры и лица персонажей с их выражением лирической тоски. В данном случае горе по ушедшему подчеркивают и жесты. Во флорентийской церкви Сан Фредиано находится большой алтарный образ кисти Селлайо «Оплакивание Христа со святым», на котором (с небольшими изменениями) Мария и Иоанн близки к Мадонне и апостолу на эрмитажных створках. Здесь в типе лиц ощущается большее влияние Доменико Гирландайо, что характерно для позднего периода творчества Селлайо.
